Inkling

When no one is watching

1 June 2026🌙

Just thinking out loud this morning. Look at the world around us and you'll see it's all set up to reward one thing: perform, and show that you're number one — while everyone is watching. Be the best when the eyes are on you. The whole system is optimised for that.

Yogi wisdom is almost the exact opposite.

Can you perform — can you be the best, be number one — when no one is watching? When the only person in the room is you, watching yourself. Could you still be number one then?

Put two people side by side. One is winning out in the world, performing, the applause loud around them. The other is a yogi performing in the jungle — nobody clapping, no one saying well done, and yet they're happy, celebrating in their own inner world.

That's the turn I keep coming back to. Yogi wisdom is about opening the inner world — being able to clap for yourself. Which is contrarian to almost everything the world teaches you, in all its forms and systems.

So the inkling underneath the inkling: where is my number one measured from — the gallery outside, or the one watching inside?
